Reader, it was 1:28pm today and I had officially overslept.
(Y’know when you take a “little” nap but it turns into 4 hours in a land far, far away? That’s the situation we’re in.)
Joshua, my sweet hubby, should have had lunch an hour ago…and I still hadn’t boiled the rice.
I raced against the clock to pick him up, throwing on my “favorite” outfit (the one you always throw on when you don’t care to dress up, even though you’ve probably worn it two days in a row)…
And that’s when I realized: I was doing it again.
If you don’t know, I have a bad habit of not caring about how I look unless I really need to care about how I look (anyone else?)…
And right now, I’m outgrowing this habit but it’s been… difficult.
I won’t bore you with the details of how I want to be the girl who can put in just a little effort and still look like she had a whole glam squad before leaving the house…
But I will say this: if I want to walk in her shoes, I have to first put her shoes on. I have to be her to become her.
So what did I do? I stopped myself long enough to put on some lip balm instead of walking out with chapped lips.
And as a result, when my little cousin looked at me and said, “Bad hair day?,” it didn’t sting!
I knew I hadn’t put in that much effort before leaving home but I also knew I had done at least one thing to honor the new me and that was what mattered.
That little bit of lip balm went a long way!
Now…why am I telling YOU this?
We have two choices when it comes to creating our new identities:
🙅🏾♀️ Force ourselves to take on new habits that completely disrupt our current ways of being and are therefore unsustainable (I may or may not have tested this approach extensively 😬).
✅ Or channel our new identities and focus on taking one small, yet intentional, step at a time—being the new you to become the new you.
It’s that simple. So, let it be.
Do one thing everyday to honor and move you closer to the version of you that you want to become.
Soon, you’ll be looking at that version of yourself in the mirror!
Tell me: what ONE thing can you do today to become the version of yourself that you dream of being next?
With much love,
